The Swedish roots'n'blues duo plays at a very high musical level, and in

to Memphis to defend the Scandinavian blues colors.
Grahn & Malm have visited this festival several times with great success,
so look forward to this mid-day event.

The Holmes Brothers [US]
Roedovre Centrum Oct. 1 2 PM - Adm. free

Sherman and Wendell Holmes were born and raised in Christchurch, Virginia.
Their parents fostered the boys' early interest in music as they listened to traditional Baptist hymns, anthems and spirituals, as well as blues music by Jimmy Reed, Junior Parker and B.B. King.

Both brothers sang in the church choir, Sherman studied the clarinet and piano before taking up the bass, while Wendell learned the trumpet, organ and guitar. The older brother, Sherman, studied
composition and music theory at Virginia State University, but in 1959, he dropped out and headed to New York for a promising job with a singer named Jimmy Jones. Wendell joined him after high school,
and the two brothers played in a several bands, backing artists like The Impressions, John Lee Hooker and Jerry Butler.

Later Sherman, Wendell and a fellow Virginian, drummer Popsy Dixon, played in a variety of Top 40 bar bands, until in 1979 the three of them formed The Holmes Brothers band.

Ever since this incredible trio has been feeding soul and mind of their devoted and ever-growing fan base with a joyous and moving blend of blues, gospel, soul, R&B, rock ‘n’ roll and country.

Over the years the trio has performed and recorded with artists like Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith, Willie Nelson, Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel, Merle Haggard,
Keith Richards, Al Green, Ben Harper, Steve Earle, Levon Helm, Rosanne Cash, Odetta, and many others.

Their latest CD, "Feed My Soul", came out in 2010 on Alligator Records, and even if Sherman, Wendell and Popsy are all close to 70 years old, they continue to tour all across the globe,
and never fail to win over their audiences where ever they play around the globe.

We are very proud to present this icon of American roots, blues and gospel music at this years Copenhagen Blues Festival
- Saturday afternoon at Roedovre Centrum, and Sunday afternoon in Christian's Church.

The Fried Okra Band & The Blues Overdrive [DK]
Metronomen Oct. 1 4 PM - Adm. 60 kr.

The Blues Overdrive and The Fried Okra Band have joined forces for this concert
at Mentronomen on Frederiksberg - previously ‘Byggeriets Hus’ on Godthåbsvej.
The two bands have previously been in in-fight in their popular Band Battles,
but this time their friendly musical combat takes place in broad daylight, when
The mysterious, Dylan-inspired universe of The Blues Overdrive meet the
swampy, primitive Mississippi Hill Country Blues grooves of The Fried Okra.

The Fried Okra Band have released two CD’s, "This is your Chance, Baby!",
nominated for a 'Danish Music Award - Folk' in 2008, and "Black Cherry",
released in 2009.

After an EP in 2009, The Blues Overdrive is going to release their first ‘real’
CD this autumn - one of the surprises being a never before released song by
cult-icon J.J. Cale, another a salute to the departed blues legend Peter Thorup.

Both bands are part of the alternative blues and roots scene, and musical labels
are not really relevant - they themselves call this Saturday afternoon show:
'Blues... and you name it!'
Frederiksberg will never be the same again!

band draws musical lines all over the map.
Since 2007 the band has shaken up domestic and foreign music venues with their
mind blowing, spiritual symbiosis of rythm’n’blues, rock’n’roll.

Mud Morganfield & Peter Nande Band [US/DK]
Husets Café Oct. 1 8 PM - Adm. 150 kr. Buy tickets at Billetto.dk

Arr. by Copenhagen Blues Festival

If you say McKinley Morganfield a lot of people pay attention, but if you say Muddy Waters, the attention will grow considerably. Muddy Waters, the"Hoochie Coochie Man", the father of the electric blues,
who died all too young in 1983. But his legacy lives on, a legacy which was previously taken up by one of Muddy Waters' sons, Big Bill Morganfield, and now also by the oldest son,
Mud Morganfield, born in 1954, under the name Larry Williams.

Mud Morganfield - "Eldest Son of Muddy Waters", as he likes to be announced, started singing not so many years ago, primarely to honour his father’s music,
but also to add his own profile and musical contribution to the Blues.

He has a big, charismatic voice with definite similarities to Muddy’s, and even his looks and attitudes are very much like his father’s,
so much so, that one of Muddy Water's old musicians has said: “It’s like seeing a ghost !”

Mud played at the festival in 2009, and now, two years later, we welcome him back, this time with a regular Chicago style club gig this Saturday night at Huset,
and a short matiné concert at Roedovre Centrum Sunday afternoon.

Also this time around Mud gets solid and competent backing by Peter Nande Band. They have established a successful tour-cooperation
and have both received appraisal wherever they have played at Scandinavian clubs and festivals.

Peter Nande Band is well known to the festivals audience - not least because the band has two members, who have received the festival's blues award
- Nande himself in 2007, and in 2008, his drummer and duo partner, Tim Lothar.
