Nathan James [USA] & Peter Nande Band [DK]
Rødovre Centrum Sept. 30 4.30 pm - Adm. free

Nathan James is a highly respected guitarist and singer with an affinity for the sounds of
acoustic blues men such as Bill Broonzy and Blind Blake, and of the electric sounds of
Johnny ‘’Guitar’’ Watson and B.B. King.
Nathan grew up in California, and from age 13 he played in local bands, getting enough
paying gigs to support himself just one month out of school.
After tenures in higher profiled bands, he was headhunted by international harmonica star
James Harman, to play in his band. The time with Harman provided him with invaluable
experience, which has shaped his career ever since. He ventured out in a solo career,
focusing on acoustic blues, in solo and duo with singer and harmonica player Ben Hernandez.
The duo won the ‘’International Blues Challenge’’ in Memphis in 2007, and have enjoyed
a high-flying career. For this grand concert in Roedovre Centrum, he is backed by Peter
Nande Band, who is remembered by many for last years festival blast with Mud Morganfield.

With her sensitive, silky-rich voice and dynamic performance she skillfully takes
charge of the stage, and she's loved by audiences everywhere, from Paris, London,
Amsterdam to the home ground, like San Fransisco Blues Festival and Monterey
Jazz & Blues Festival.
She started her professional career with her dad, in 1991 in Oakland, CA., and since
then she has performed on her own and appeared at great shows with Etta James,
John Hammond, Taj Mahal, Charles Brown and others.
Last year she releases her forth CD, ”Keeping it Real”, which, like it's predecessor,

ROCKIN' BLUES TONIGHT!

Popa Chubby [USA] & BlueShot [DK]
Amager Bio Sept. 30 8 pm - opens 7 pm - Adm. 225 DKR Tickets: BILLETnet

Popa Chubby "How'd a white boy get the blues?” - a relevant question regarding Popa Chubby
and also the title of one in a long row of both studio-, live- and cover-albums from
a very productive artist.
Originally named Ted Horowitz, he was born in 1960 and raised in the Bronx, NY.
At the age of 13 he began playing drums, but when he discovered the music of the
Rolling Stones, he shifted to guitar and started to listen to blues, soul and R&B artists
of the 1960s. His style is among others inspired by Willie Dixon, Freddie King, Sly &
the Family Stone, Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. Apropos Jimi Hendrix – the 18th of
September this year it was 40 years ago that Jimi Hendrix died. Some years ago

Popa Chubby recorded a strong Hendrix tribute, “Electric Chubbyland”, and he will
without doubt play some Hendrix-songs at his concert on the blues festival. He is a
truly genuine, hard-working live musician, who knows his trade to his fingertips and
his shows sparkles with energy when he fires of his aggressive, and often quite long,
guitar-solos. He uses a great deal of variation in his set lists, so you'll get a whole new
experience every time you hear him, this time also with songs from his new CD,
“The Fight Is On”.

To the die-hard blues-rock fans who haven't seen Popa yet – get up and get going!

Popa Chubby - vocals/guitar / Arthur Pappas - bass / Dan Hickey - drums

Chubby, who they meet again on a great blues-rock night in Amager Bio.

René Evald & Poor Folks
Kvarterhuset Sept. 30 8 pm - Adm. 60 DKR

René and his pour folks performed at the 2008 festival around the release of ”Copenhagen Time”.
He is working on a new CD, and you can probably sneak-listen to some of it this evening at the
Kvarterhuset. René is a genuine 'rock-veteran', who has done the full tour: beat in the 60'ties,
country in the 70'ties, blues-rock with Buffalo and Big Mama in the 80'ties, and latin-rock-jazz
fusion in the 90's with Evald & Littauer.
With an outstanding tone and an equilibristic technique René Evald is one of the country's finest
guitarists in his field. The repertoire is a well structured combination of new and old blues, folk,
rock and country songs in a laid-back, almost understated style, and it is not half wrong, when
René in a review is compared to Mark Knopfler and J.J. Cale. “The package is delivered with a
harmony and a laid-back attitude that shows amazing musical energy”.

Secondhand Bluesband
Karensminde Sept. 30 9 pm - Adm. 100 DKR Tickets: ebillet - NB! pass for all 3 days 200 DKR

Arr. by Sydhavnens Musikforening

The band has played soul and blues for as long as anyone can recall.
This is a 'full-steam-ahead' band, that delivers something for those who wants to
dance as well as those who wants to listen, and there is something for both the
ear and the eye. The repertoire is inspired by old soul and blues masters like
James Brown, Van Morrison and Otis Redding, just to name a few. Secondhand Bluesband, however, is in no way the usual cover band.
We talk about interpretations of the old treasures of the genre, with the the band
adding its own personal touch and character to the music.

Lars Berthelsen - vocals / Birger Larsen & Ole Himmelstrup - sax / Otto Sidenius - keyb./ Bo Bistrup - gui / Bjørn Nimand - bass / Kim Hagemann - drums

Risager & Balsgaard
Christianshavns Beboerhus Sept. 30 9 pm - Adm. 80 DKR

Risager and Balsgaard have played together for 15 years in their dynamic and interactive duo,
balancing between Risager's powerful vocal and guitar and Balsgaard's rolling boogie piano.
The style is a grinding N'Awleans boogie blues of part their own compositions and part old
classics interpretations.

These two guys play all over Europe with their successful 7-piece Thorbjoern Risager Band,
one of the top 5 outfits of Scandinavia. The band has released 5 highly acclaimed CDs in as
many years, the most recent, "Track Record", getting rave revues and lots of stars everywhere
you look.

Bartof Café Sept. 30 9 pm - Adm. 60 DKR

My Bubba & Mi is an alternative country/folk/blues band from Iceland/Sweden/Denmark.
The three Scandinavian girls themselves, all living in Copenhagen, calls the music
”lullabies from the countryside”.
In the spring of 2010 they released the album ”How it's done in Italy” and has promoted
the CD on a larger European tour, that later this year is followed up by a tour to the US
and Japan.

one of Bartof's regular players.

Jacob Fischer Trio
La Fontaine Sept. 30 9 pm - Adm. 60 DKR

”Blues” is the title of jazz guitarist Jacob Fischer's new CD, recorded live at La Fontaine in May 2010.
With the organ virtuoso Martin Schack's sweaty, dirty Hammond organ in Jimmi Smith style, and the
explosive Caspar Mikkelsen's creative and funky drums,Fischer explores all the different shades and
shapes of jazzy blues, from a corrosive blue distorted slide blues, over an light blue jazz-waltz or a
lazy Summer blue bossa nova, to a hot-tempered equilibristic bebop blues, performed by three of the
country's finest jazz musicians. They see absolutely no reason to hide the fact, that they just love to play.
Formidable jazz-blues for this year's anniversary festival.

Lea Thorlann & the Spicey Gang
Galatheakroen Sept. 30 10 pm - Adm. free

At long last Lea plays on the festival under her own name. She has of-course been there
several times with ”Bells of Joy” and Healers, and not least with ”Ladies Sing the Blues”,
but after her debut CD ”Untitled” last year, it is impossible to get around a concert with
her own music. She composes a multi-course menu of soul, blues and gospel, served
with utterly charm, diversity and her competent mastering of lyrics as well as vocal phrasing.
It's just - so cool!

Lea Thorlann - vocals / Lasse Storgaard - keyb. / Søren Bøjgaard - bass / Martin Seidelin - drums
