Arr. by Copenhagen Blues Festival

It's Blues with a Capital B, when John Primer from Chicago along with Nisse Thorbjorn
- aka CPH Slim - opens thies year's festival with two concerts - Roedovre Centrum in
the afternoon, and in the evening, a 'Real Deal' Chicago style club gig at Huset.

John Primer is the soul of classic Chicago Blues – “The Real Deal” - also the title of the first album under his own name and with his own band - which since 1995 has been John Primer & The Real Deal Blues Band. Primer has played blues guitar since the early sixties, and he quickly became a sought after sideman on both rhythm, lead and slide guitar. In 1979 Primer was invited by Willie Dixon himself to play in his band, Chicago All-Stars, touring all over the US, Mexico and Europe.
From 1980 he played lead guitar with Muddy Waters until Muddy's untimely death in 1983.
That very same year Muddy Waters plyed in Copenhagen, with Primer on guitar, so 28 years has passed since his last visit here.
After Muddy's death Primer played the guitar for 14 years with Magic Slim & Teardrops. The inspiration from his time with Muddy and Magic is obvious, and is clearly heard on the 10 albums that he has published since he became his own master.

He is constantly touring the world, and today he stands out as one of the greatest exponents of real Chicago Blues. He masters the traditional Chicago phrasing as no one else, both as guitarist and as “story-teller”. With his big voice, his ultra tight rhythm guitar and sparkling lead and slide guitar, he is at the top of his game, and all around the world he is considered a true driving force of the Chicago Blues.

For this, his first visit to Copenhagen in 28 years, John Primer is backed up by one of the country's most authentic Chicago-style live-bands, Nisse Thorbjorn Band. Some years ago Nisse went to Chicago to experience first hand the spirit and the sound of the music in “The Capital of Blues” itself.
He actually got to play with John Primer at the Kingston Mines blues club on Halsted Street, so when the festival got this opportunity to get Primer back to Copenhagen, it was obvious to hand the backing gig to Nisse. With Nisse's eminent harmonica and his intense and dynamic band, that even an old Muddy Waters veteran can appreciate, we hope that John Primer will feel “right at home”.
With his debut album “CPH Slim” from 2009 and with the festival's nomination as “Blues Artist of the Year”, Nisse Thorbjorn has made his name in the Danish and Swedish blues circles – the rest of Europe is waiting out there - and it doesn't hurt to have a gig with John Primer on your resume !

Look forward to an exciting meeting between two genuine blues-performers of two different generations.

Syreregn & Mickey Brown Snakecity Syndicate [DK]
Råhuset Sept. 28 9 PM - Adm. 50 kr.

The Raahus at Vesterbro takes the first steps to introduce a festival stage for the
up-and-coming bands from the the blues undergrowth.
This first time around the festival and Raahuset present three nights with two bands
every night - and we hope, that the project will live and grow.

The drops from Syreregn (Acid Rain) has been falling for some years now, and it is a shower that gets bigger and bigger, and hits more and more.
I 2009 the debut album “OCD” was recorded and published with help from the company Jawbreaker.
“Syreregn (Acid Rain) plays LOUD, but these boys are giving me the same lovely headache, that I remember from the acidic sixties. More, more, more...!” Kurt Baagoe, Cultural Journalist on Danish Radio, Channel 4.

Mickey Brown & Snakecity Syndicate is a band that spans widely genre-wise – up-tempo dirty Rock'n'Blues, dusty jazzy bar hymns, the all quiet soulful acoustic songs, and songs that simply talks for themselves. All of it spiced up with a pinch of electronic and delicious Hammond-keys. Soon they will publish an album from their own record-label.
Said about M.B.S.S.: Rock and Blues that wants to go forward in the good way. “Whisky Rock” with groovy melodies.
