Brunch & Blues with Melau - Knudsen - Boysen [DK]
Prismen Sept. 29 11 AM - Adm. 140 DKR

reservation
You need to make reservations for the brunch.
Please call +45 82 334520 or e-mail: morten.bolvinkel@kff.kk.dk
Note: half price for kids under 10 !

Once again, Prismen takes part in the festival and welcomes you to their ‘music brunch’ concept
with great food and great music.

Prismen serves a wonderful organic brunch buffet, to be enjoyed with coffee,
tea and juice - and of course - with some great blues.

The musical main course is served by a new trio with jump, boogie and blues pianist par excellence,
Hans Knudsen, harp virtuoso Thomas Melau and super guitarist Ronni Boysen.
Coming from different musical backgrounds, they joined forces to create their own, new style of jump,
jazz og blues, and they started out in the recording studio to see, if they could find common ground.
They could, and what came out of it, was an intense, hot and spicey New Orleans style gumbo.
The studio session should result in a CD release later this year.

Mem Shannon & The Membership Band [US]
Roedovre Centrum Sept. 29 2 PM - Adm. free

AND:

Husets Café Sept. 29 8 PM - Adm. 200 DKR. Tickets: Billetto

Arr. af Copenhagen Blues Festival

Mem Shannon was born in New Orleans in 1959. Inspired by his father's record collection he began playing at an early age, first the clarinet,
later the guitar. After seeing B.B. King, he got serious about it, and began practicing and playing in various bands in the Crescent City.
When his father died in 1981, he had to take a day-job driving a cab to maje ends meet. He continued to play part-time, but didn't return
to the scene for real until he presented his new band, The Membership Band, at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in 1991.
But the cab wasn't parked for good until a year after the release of his first CD, "A Cab Driver's Blues" in 1996.
Since then he has released 6 albums, one of which, the “Live: A Night at Tipitina's”, was recorded at a concert at the famous New Orleans club.
Mem has been nominated for and won a number of "Best Of" awards - among others the W.C. Handy Award for 'Best New Blues Artist' in 1996.
offBeat Magazine, the undisputed experts on Louisiana music named Mem Shannon Louisiana's Best Blues Performer for 2008.

Mem Shannon was the first new great talent out of New Orleans, the Big Easy, for quite some time.
The breakthrough buzz album from 1996 led to national media coverage, and his consistant performances at the annual N'awlins festival
won him a great following, including oversea's festival guests, thus opening up the doors to the rest of the world.

Shannon brilliantly combines elements of funk, jazz, and rock & roll into his guitar playing, and his soulful vocals are not your run-of-the-mill stylings.
In fact, most things about Shannon are exceptional: the way he writes his songs, the way he sings them, and the way he presents them.
Mem Shannon and The Membership are true New Orleans cats, and while their music is rooted in the blues, it's soaked through with that
Big Easy syncopated sound, oozing with funk.

A few press quotes:
“Mem Shannon is easily one of the most underrated guitarists …and probably one of the more innovative vocalists out there, too"
"He’s one of the most prolific and clever songsmiths on the current blues scene"
"Always one to avoid tired blues clichés, Mem shifts nimbly from funk to jazz to rock to heartfelt balladry
“One reason the deep-voiced Mem Shannon has become a critic and fan favorite …is his emphasis on original tunes rather than familiar blues standards.

The opening act this evening is a solo show with the Canadian roots talents,
David "Boxcar" Gates. David plays a brilliant fingerpicking bottleneck slide
guitar and technique. He is inspired by old Southern country-blues masters,
but brings new life to the style with a passionate and lively ragtime approach.
This is Delta, Piedmont, Ragtime blues at its best.

This eveing at Bartof James Harman is the star in Peter Nande's conceptual "Blues Jamboree",

in -82.
The band is now ready to enter the Danish music scene with their personal bluesrock and
songs from their new CD, "Working for the man". The now middle-aged men are using their
experiences from both the Danish and the international scene. After visiting other music styles,
they have all returned to Rhythm'n'Blues. The songs will be partly their own compositions, partly
classics interpreted and arranged by the band, from new songs to traditional blues standards.

The Fried Okra Band [DK]
The Brass Monkey Sept. 29 9 PM - Adm. 60 DKR

The band was formed as a electric/acoustic duo by Morten Lunn and Thomas Foldberg in 2003.
Together they soon developed a love for the raw and stripped down sounds of RL Burnside,
Jr. Kimbrough, Kenny Brown, Asie Payton , T-Model Ford and Robert Belfour! The duo started
as a warm up act for bigger Danish Blues names. Under a year later they turned into a quartet
(adding bass and drums) and during a trip to Chicago Mr. Lunn gave the band it´s name while
sitting in a south-side restaurant (that was eventually closed).. The Fried Okra Band.
Most of the material was borrowed from the giants from the North Mississippi Hills and reworked
blues-classics. The "new" band played several gigs around Denmark, Norway and Sweden
- from small clubs to festivals. Gradually the band´s repetoire changed from covers to mostly
original stuff developing a very personal style. In the fall of 2011 the band took a new approach
by turning the quartet into a trio, on occasion enhanced with a 4th member, Henrik Silver,
playing the bass horn - the sousaphone!
With this new constellation the band moves into the next phase - ready to record their 3rd album
- feeling more focused than ever, with a lot on their minds and hearts!

The One-Eyed Mule is Americana in a mixture of country/folk/rock/blues.
The band has been inspired by the Italian movie composer Ennio Morricone
and his characteristic sound, and they are almost performing an Americana
movie with their beautiful varying, melancholic roots songs and furious dusty rock.
The band made their debut in 2006 with "Hobo in the Land of Love" and in 2008
released "From the Beats to the Bible", from which the song "Where You Don’t Belong"
made it onto the soundtrack to the US TV-series "The Cleaner". In 2010, the third album
"Drifting to a Happy Place", and the same year, they had their overseas debut, when
they played at the American festival South by Southwest in March.
The new CD "When Tomorrow Comes" adds boogie, ragtime and krautrock! to their music.
With an instrument mix of guitars, upright bass, drums, organ, jew harp, sitar, banjo and saw,
One-Eyed Mule still adds new ingredients to their own musical mixture.

Tobacco [DK]
Mojo Sept. 29 10 PM - Adm. 120 DKR

Tobacco name themselves as the country's leading washboard orchestra.
Their repertoire can be compared to a musical jambalaya, where everything from the American music
tradition, like country blues, spirituals, ragtime, zydeco and "Goddamn Hillbilly", are mixed and spiced
up with an energetic stage performance, four-part choir and a pumping locomotive rhythm.

Tobacco started out in the autumn of 2001 and has since then played about 150 gigs in Denmark and
Poland. A lot of people remember them as the house band on the live TV talk show ”ZULU Late Night”.
On the show, they backed people like Medina, Rasmus Nøhr, Basim, Aura and Julie Berthelsen.
