PH Caféen Sept. 28 3:30 PM - Adm. 75 kr.

Alongside gigs with his urban blues bands, L.P. Simonsen often performs solo, with focus on acoustic 20's – 30's delta blues, just like it was played in the small 'juke joints' of the country side and on the city streets. With strong interpretations and an improvising style, he escapes the dusty museum feeling, and the music lives, here and now, and becomes timeless, kept alive by the inspiration of the moment.

Franck "Paris Slim" Goldwasser [US/Fr]
Mojo Sept. 28 7 PM - doors 6 PM - Adm. 130 kr. Tickets: Mojo

Guitarist Frank "Paris Slim" Goldwasser was born in Paris, France in 1960, but moved to the
San Francisco Bay Area at the age of 21. His initial blues inspiration was Hound Dog Taylor.
He was immediately hired by Troyce Key (who gave him the stage name of Paris Slim) to play
in the house band at Key's legendary Eli's Mile High Club in Oakland, and eventually assumed
leadership of the group.
He toured the West coast, appearing on prominent local venues with acts like Jimmy McCracklin,
Lowell Fulson, Percy Mayfield and Charlie Musselwhite. Later frequent tours all over the US and
Europe followed.
He released his first single in 1984, and four years later, his CD debut "Blues For Esther", which
received a nomination from the prestigious W.C. Handy Awards. Its follow-up, "Bleedin' Heart",
was co-produced with Joe Louis Walker, who guested along with Sonny Rhodes.
He relocated to Southern California in 1998, and became a fixture on the vibrant L.A. blues scene,
continuing to absorb new influences and hone his art. His CD "Bluju" was produced by Randy
Chortkoff (of Delta Groove), and it received acclaim as one of the most progressive blues releases
in years, while still remaining firmly rooted in the blues tradition. The association with Chortkoff led
to a spot as regularly featured guitarist in The Mannish Boys both in the studio and on the road.
Franck Goldwasser has since recorded with the Alastair Greene Band, and relocated to Portland,
Oregon, where he has appeared with people the late Paul Delay, D.K. Stewart, Lloyd Jones, Jim
Wallace, and Bill Rhoades and the Party Kings.
We are happy to welcome this great guitar player to Copenhagen Blues Festival, where he is joined
by his French rhythm group. This man has The Blues” - that’s for sure !

Waitin' For Janis [DK]
Kvarterhuset Sept. 28 8 PM - Adm80 kr. Forsalg: Enkelbillet.dk

There will be fired up this fall on a warm Saturday evening during the Copenhagen Blues Festival.
Blues, a good atmosphere and a high mood. The band celebrates Janis Joplin's music and it's
influence on the music of today. The repertoire of Watin' for Janis is a love declaration filed with
rhythm'n'blues. There will be played classics like: Piece of My Heart, Tell Mama, Mercedes Benz,
a conglomerate of known and lesser known ballads, sweaty blues and swinging soul. (excerpt
from the bands press release): “Have you never smoked a joint? Well, then you are among the
few who still can remember the 60's – Woodstock, Monterey, flower power, peace&love.
Or are you one who evidently has smoked away any remembrance of that time....Relax, we've
got the “stuf” that will revoke the memories to life, we've got the clothes, the scent, atmosphere,
love, sparkle - and the MUSIC”. The band has been laying low for many years, but something has
kindled the flames, demanding that there be fired up under the old Mama Joplin songs!
So welcome to the Blues Festival at 'Kvarterhuset'.

Delta Blues Band [DK]
Karens Minde Kulturhus Sept. 28 8:30 PM - Adm. 110 kr. Tickets: ebillet

The band originally started as Delta Blues & Boogie Band way
back in -68, and, to his day, is considered one of the founders
of the Danish blues scene.
In a new configuration in the eight'es as Delta Cross Band, the
band got huge success, playing all major festivals and clubs in
Northern Europe, and releasing several top selling albums.

After their comeback in 2008, launched at that year's blues festival,
the success has continued.
The band has remained almost the same as 40 years ago.
Still in front is singer, guitarist and piano player Troels Jensen
- the 'grand old man' of Danish Blues - flanked by his faithful
crew, who’s been with the band, on and off, since they started.
With the release of "Checkin' In" last year, Delta, now with harp
player Jorgen Lang as a fifth member, have explored new paths,
but still serves first class, hand played, blues music of the first order.

BlueSoul is an amazing team of musicians with a long line of original blues
and soul numbers. When the band fires up with their 'blues-soul and soul-blues',

The Relics are all 'grown up' with lots of musical years behind them, coming from bands like
Juicy Blues, Bluesbusters, and the Dire Straits Project, the style of the music is guitar based
blues-rock, from ZZ Top over B.B. King to Creedence Clear Water Revival. Just like old circus
horses, the band loves to spread good vibes to the audience, and probably, one or two in the
crowd will be pleasently surprised by the sound of Kenneth doing his guitar-magic with his
crisp Knopfler technique.

with deflections to the more rock, groove-based and funky, delivered with the idiosyncrasy
of the band: improvisational surplus and an urge to play with the structure.

Kjeld Lauritsen Trio feat. Almaz Yebio [DK]
La Fontaine Sept. 28 10 PM - Adm. 70 DKR

Every year La Fontaine sets up a special jazz-blues programme in honour of the blues festival,
offering something for both the jazz- and the blues audience.

Kjeld Lauritsen has a passion for the 'blues-flavoured-organ-trio-format' , made popular in the U.S.A
in the 50's and 60', by players like Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McDuff and Joey DeFrancesco.
Locally, Kjeld is one of the best performers of the genre, as can be heard on his on his new CD,
“In the Zone”. The two other positions in the trio are equally heavily occupied:
Søren Frost on drums, a widely accomplished musician with a passion for New-Orleans rhythms,
and Per Gade with noticeable guitar solos and an elegant accompaniment.
This evening at La Fontaine, Kjeld Lauritsen's jazz-blues organ trio is slightly enhanced to a
4-piece outfit with special guest, singer Almaz Yebio from Malmoe, Sweden, who, by the way,
also appears on the before mentioned CD, "in the Zone".
