got the Danish Music Award for “Best Roots CD”. In 2011 he got the Copenhagen Blues
Festival award, "Danish Blues Artist of the Year"

BLUES GUDSTJENESTE

Soul Music – the younger Sister and Brother of the Blues
Grundtvigs Kirke Sept. 28 2 pm - Adm. free

The Blues Sermon is held in the cript of Grundtvig's Church.
Reverend Palle Kongsgaard delivers a Sermon on the subject:
”Soul Music - the younger Sister and Brother of the Blues”
With its roots in the '50s Rhythm'n'blues soul emerged as a bud on the blues and the gospel tradition,
lead by Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye amongst others. With beautiful
melodies and a enthralling dance-drive, soul joins gospel and blues in a new metropolitan music.
Heavenly and earthly love, spirituality and sensuality flow together (Hallelujah, I Love Her So).
On the surface it is often hit list love songs, but they have a spiritual dimension in the musical gospel
feeling and the sermon like refrain (Get Up And Move). Soul played its part in strengthening a new
“black” self-consciousness and held its grip on hope, in the battle against social inequality, race
discrimination and the Vietnam war.

After the sermon there is a concert with Roy Richards & Kenn Lending Blues Band
Roy Richards was born 12.11.1948 in Bridge, Saint Michael, Barbados, and came to Denmark in 1972.
With the band Roy Richards & his Funky Friends, he solidified his name as a charismatic entertainer
with a fantastic soul-voice, he has played a significant role in the Copenhagen music scene as funk
and soul singer. Roy and Kenn have played together many times before, so this is going to be one
happy, musical and spiritual reunion.

Rick Vito & the Lucky Devils [US]
HUSET-KBH Sept. 28 8 pm Adm. 150 kr. - Tickets: Billetto

For many years rock legend Bob Seger was known for solid classic rock.
Around 1986 something happened – the title track from the album "Like a Rock" was different. In the
background was a quiet rumbling, which suddenly became a storm, and finished as the pleasant
tranquility known after a rainshower on a warm summer day. It was Rick Vito who'd added slide
guitar - something Seger later has refered to as "the single most spectacular overdub I'd ever heard!"
Vito has worked as a solo artist, songwriter, session musician and bandmember with John Mayall,
Bonnie Raitt, Bob Seger, Jackson Browne and Roger McGuinn. He was born in Pensylvania and
inspired by rock'n roll and later The Rolling Stones, started performing on local stages in 1963.
He learned about different kinds of R&B and Blues, artists like Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, and
Howling Wolf, and started studying the styles of the great Blues masters, like B.B. King, Elmore James,
Magic Sam, Slim Harpo, Otis Rush, Freddie and Albert King and Earl Hooker.
Later, in New York, he introduced himself to Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett, and was invited to sit in at
their show, making him realise that there would be no other course in life for him other than music.
He moved to Los Angeles in 1971 and hasn't looked back. He's worked and recorded with people like
Todd Rundgren, Little Richard, Bobby Whitlock, John Prine, Dobie Gray, Roger McGuinn, Bonnie Raitt,
Jackson Browne, and was invited to join Fleetwood Mac in 1987.
In 1992, he released his first cd, King of Hearts, which was praised for it's "...dazzling collection of fiery,
slide guitar-driven songs...". His fifth solo CD, “Band Box Boogie”, from 2004 marked a turning point in
style for him, mixing elements of Swing, Latin, and Jump-Blues with Rock & Roll.
The 2006 CD release, “Rattlesnake Shake!” presents his skills as a masterful guitarist and slideguitarist
and the 2007 release "Talk that talk" is essentially a blues recording with a bit more of an accent on
acoustic guitar and strong lyrics. In 2007 he joined the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band, resulting in the
great CD “Blue Again”.
He has made a name for himself as an expert slide guitarist and is guaranteed to deliver a legendary
blues performance filled with slide guitar and soulful vocals, when he comes to Copenhagen with a
new album and a concentrated charge of blues, rock'n'roll and r'n'b !
A must for all fans of blues and contemporary music!

Waitin' for Janis [DK]
PH Caféen Sept. 28 8 pm - 120 kr. Tickets: phbooking.dk

There will be fired up this fall on a warm Saturday evening during the Copenhagen Blues Festival.
Blues, a good atmosphere and a high mood. The band celebrates Janis Joplin's music and it's
influence on the music of today. The repertoire of Watin' for Janis is a love declaration filed with
rhythm'n'blues. There will be played classics like: Piece of My Heart, Tell Mama, Mercedes Benz,
a conglomerate of known and lesser known ballads, sweaty blues and swinging soul. (excerpt
from the bands press release): “Have you never smoked a joint? Well, then you are among the
few who still can remember the 60's – Woodstock, Monterey, flower power, peace&love.
Or are you one who evidently has smoked away any remembrance of that time....Relax, we've
got the “stuf” that will revoke the memories to life, we've got the clothes, the scent, atmosphere,
love, sparkle - and the MUSIC”. The band has been laying low for many years, but something has
kindled the flames, demanding that there be fired up under the old Mama Joplin songs!
So welcome to the Blues Festival at 'Kvarterhuset'.
