Kulturhuset Islands Brygge - Thursday Sept. 29th 7 pm - Adm. 120 kr. - Tickets: place2book.com

Robert Johnson (1911-1938) managed from 1936-37 to record 29 songs, which had great influence on Western music especially in blues and 60's s rock can the strong influence can be seen in the countless reinterpretations of Johnson's repertoire. Several of Denmark's best blues musicians, all of whom have received the Festival's award, "this year's Danish Blues Name" are found together to pay tribute to one of the greatest blues musicians by interpreting all his 29 seminal songs.

Troels Jensen is, without a doubt, one of the country's greatest blues artists, and through a long and impressive career he has in a lifetime helped to define the Danish blues scene. He turned 70 earlier this year, he however, still actively tours with, among others Delta Blues Band and The Healers and various duos and trios. Troels got the first blues award in 2002.
Nisse Thorbjørn gained notoriety with his orchestra 'Cph Slim Band' and for many years of cooperation with John Primer and Lurrie Bell. Nisse struck in earnest his name with the release of "CPH Slim", and in the same year, 2009, it was his turn to get the blues price.
Thorbjørn Risager and his black tornado is something of a success story. The band's first decade has not only got the wheels to rotate on the tour-bus in Denmark, the band have so managed to get the music beyond the country's borders. Thorbjørn got the blues price back in 2005, and has also won the Danish Music Award for their last 2 albums.
H.P. Lange is a veteran on the Danish music scene. As one of the few interpreters of acoustic blues tradition, he has since the mid-' 80s played a number of concerts in Denmark and abroad-from small clubs to large festivals. H.P. has released 9 Cds and 2 of them have won the Danish Music Award for best blues/roots publishing. H.P. Lange got the blues award in 2011.

TORONZO CANNON [US] and CHRIS THOMAS KING [US]
Bartof Station - Thursday Sept. 29th 8 pm - Adm. 200 kr. - Tickets:: Billetto.dk

Toronzo Cannon - if you were to write a novel about a modern day Chicago bluesman,
it would be hard to find a better model than Toronzo Cannon. He grew up on the South Side,
and as a child he would idle near Theresa’s Lounge where he could hear legends such as
Buddy Guy and Junior Wells through the open door.
Though Toronzo maintains a day job as a bus driver for the Chicago Transit Authority, his nights
and vacation days are free to pursue the blues, which he has been working hard at since 1992
as both a sideman and a bandleader. His career has included nine appearance at the Chicago
Blues Festival, and tours of Europe, the Americas, and South Africa.
Cannon’s unofficial launch from local hero to national star took place on June 13, 2015 at the
world-renowned Chicago Blues Festival, where he performed as headliner for the massive crowd
- including a couple of people from Copenhagen Blues Festival !
Cannon bought his first guitar at age 22 and quickly mastered the instrument. Although his
initial focus was reggae, he found himself increasingly drawn to the blues.
He absorbed sounds, styles and licks from Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, Hound Dog Taylor,
B.B. King, Albert King, Freddie King, Al Green, Jimi Hendrix, J.B. Hutto, Lil’ Ed and others.
Although influenced by many, Cannon’s biting, singing guitar sound is all his own.
From 1996 through 2002, Cannon played as a sideman for Tommy McCracken, Wayne Baker
Brooks, L.V. Banks and Joanna Connor. In 2001, while still working as a sideman, he formed
his own band, The Cannonball Express. By 2003, he was working exclusively as a band leader.
Cannon’s fourth album is The Chicago Way, and he once again demonstrates that he is a
modern day blues master. It is a smart album of original contemporary blues songs with just
enough of the Windy City charm. Toronzo Cannon has a great band, a unique voice, and a guitar
style that ensure that he will be a contributor to the progress of blues in the states for years to come.

Copenhagen Blues Festival and Bartof Station are looking forward to presenting Toronzo Cannon
at this year’s festival.

Chris Thomas King was born in 1962 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His father owned "Tabby's Blues Box" and raised Chris Thomas from his early years into the old blues tradition. Playing guitar and singing Chris started touring as a young boy with local "swamp blues"-musicians. At the age of just twenty-three he was discovered and named as the last major folk blues discovery of the 20th Century. After his first two records as the darling of blues: "Blue Beat" (1984) and "The Beginning" (1986), he turned the blues world upside down. In 1990 he released the record "Cry of the Prophets" on which he embraced hip hop modernity and digital aesthetics. The Blues Mafia - a consortium of folklorists, record collectors, and researchers felt betrayed by King and denounced him in the music press across the United States.
King moved to Europe in 1993 and went on to write and produce a series of ground breaking recordings including “21st Century Blues” and “My Pain Your Pleasure". The French were enthralled by King’s subversive bohemian stance and was lauded a genius for his transcendent folk art, which he coined twenty-first-century blues. All though he was celebrated as an expatriate artist he decided to return to New Orleans in 1996 to contend for the soul of the blues. But he found it difficult to re-enter the traditional American market, from which he had been exiled.
Nevertheless, King was chosen by the Coen brothers to play the role of itinerant bluesman Tommy Johnson together with George Clooney in the movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou? ” (2000) The movie was a major success and as an authentic folk blues artist King got new fans all over the world and inspired a new generation of musicians. He sold millions of records and won numerous awards and this silenced his critics.
Thirty years after becoming the last major folk blues discovery of the 20th Century, Chris Thomas King is today, one of the most important artists in the world for having changed the way we think of blues.
His latest records are ‘Antebellum Postcards’ (2011) and ‘Bona Fide’ (2012).

The audience can look forward to a fantastic musical experience. King plays solo
Thursday and Saturday in Copenhagen, and Friday at Slotsbio in Hillerød.
