Nisse Thorbjørn - Rasmus Dissing - HP Lange [DK]
Sølund - Friday Sept. 30th 4 pm - Adm. 50 kr.

This afternoon at Sølund on Norrebro will be a musical experience out of the ordinary.
The two blues musicians H.P. Long and Nisse Thorbjørn, whom comes with each his angle on
the genre, has teamed up with Rasmus Dissing, whom with his piano playing and his song is
sure to give the experience a further dimension.
Rasmus Dissing, singer, songwriter and pianist, grew up in a very musical environment, and has
sung and played since he was a little. He has toured in 24 years with the Orchestra "Dissing,
Dissing, Las and Dissing", and has released six albums with his father, Povl Dissing, and 4
albums with his own band "Dissing and Las", most recently the critically acclaimed and
award winning "My grandma's dentures".
Today he plays between 70 and 100 concerts annually in several contexts, both as a great
interpreter of Bob Dylan's works and with his own material.
H.P. Lange, a great interpreter of the acoustic blues tradition, and Nisse Thorbjørn, who is more
to the Chicago blues and urban soul, are both described several other places in the program.

DAMON FOWLER [US] and THE BLUES OVERDRIVE [DK]
Bartof Station - Friday Sept. 30th 8 pm - Adm. 200 kr. - Tickets: Billetto.dk

Damon Fowler is a singer, guitar, lap steel maestro player and songwriter from Florida (US). He plays a blues based swampy mix of bayou R&B, country, rockabilly, sacred steel, and swing has, at its best, a taut, precise, and haunting tension underlining Fowler's gently hoarse, easy, and naturally flowing everyman vocals. While it's tempting to call Fowler a blues player, and he does feature plenty of blues in all of his sets and albums, he has enough country in his voice and enough pop smarts in his songwriting to paint on a wider canvas than that.

His solo gigs with his skintight power trio have converted rooms full of strangers into a loyal congregation who now attends his services regularly. #Sounds of Home#, his sixth album and third for Blind Pig Records, shows this clearly, from the opener, "Thought I Had It All," an eerie, swampy confessional, through the drive-the-highway pop of "Spark," the bright, bouncy, and melodic country shuffle of "Where I Belong," and sharp covers of Elvis Costello's "Alison" and Johnny Winter's "TV Mama" (these two, along with the charming version of the traditional "I Shall Not Be Moved" that closes the album, are the only ones here that Fowler didn't write). Produced by Tab Benoit and recorded at Whiskey Bayou Studios in Houma, Louisiana, Sounds of Home has a deep, clear, and full-room sound, with Fowler's guitar lines cutting though sharp as Texas wind over a Louisiana swamp, and when he goes to the lap steel, well, it's like a sleek and chiming gospel angel just flew into the room.
Beside his solo carrier he’s spending time touring with the band Southern Hospitality and with Butch Trucks (Allman Brothers Band) and freight Train. Damon joined forces with fellow guitarist JP Soars and keyboardist Victor Wainwright in 2011 to form the southern roots rock group, Southern Hospitality. SoHo quickly became a strong draw on the national circuit due to their early, roof-raising live performances and their first recording, Easy Livin', on Blind Pig.
His contribution on the Lab steel guitar with Butch Trucks and freight Train, make it sounds close to Duane Allman great slide guitar sound and bring memories from the past.
Over the years, Fowler has worked with Delbert McClinton, Chris Duarte, Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter, Edgar Winter, Jeff Beck, Robin Trower, Gregg Allman, Junior Brown, Rick Derringer, Little Feat, Jimmie Vaughan, Victor Wainwright, and the Radiators.
We look forward to have Damon Fowler at the festival this year.

The Blues Overdrive plays music that gets the past to sound of the future
and shows how the sounds of blues music can be played in an exciting modern form.
The mix of classic style elements of Chicago blues creating trance-like and mesmerizing
delta grooves in a new way but still without getting too far away from the source.
The band's début album from 2012 laid the foundations for an international breakthrough,
and in 2013, the band got the German price as 'Debut Album of the year'.
The band's latest album, "Clinch!" was recently named by European Blues Awards f
or ' Album of the Year ' at the London Blues Fest. It is the first time a Scandinavian
band received this prestigious award. The American blues-heavyweight Duke Robillard
participates as a guest on the CD.
The CD has since gotten radio airplay in most parts of the world, has been ‘Album of the
week' on both British and Australian radio, and got a ton of good reviews, including 5
stars in Europe's leading blues magazine Bluesnews: "in short, there is an originality
and a melodic drive in this band as it is easy to become obsessed with".
Also live the band romps home and abroad, and is frequently on tour in Denmark,
Norway, Sweden, Germany, Poland and England. On stage the band exhibits a high
international level with guitarists Andreas Andersen and Martin Olsen's almost telepathic
interaction, which probably will git Bartof Station up and cooking this evening, before
Damon Fowler goes on.

Delta Blues Band feat. Miriam Mandipira[DK/ZW]
Karma Kajen - Kayak Bar - Friday Sept. 30th 8 pm - Adm. 170 kr.

Since their "Checkin' In" CD from 2009, Delta Blues Band has had a fruitful collaboration with Miriam Mandipira.
They have played concerts in Scandinavia, including with great success at Jacklyn Jazz festival and at the Malmö Blues festival.
Cooperation with Delta Blues Band was such that she also appeared on the Delta´s new CD, "Stonewashed".
Malmö Festival wrote: “Here we can really speak about world class! Blues and soul in its absolute best appearance.
Miriam has kept the audience in a breathlessly grip on Palladium Theatre with help of the Danish blues guru and band leader,Troels Jensen”.

Miriam Mandipira comes from Zimbabwe and began singing at a very young age with role models like Ella Fitzgerald,
Shirley Brown, Bessie Smith and Aretha Franklin. In 1996, she was fronting the band Luck Street Blues, which she played with
until she moved to South Africa in 2005, where she, among other things. played with one of the nation's premier blues bands,
Strange Brew, where she was called Southern Africa's ' Queen of the blues '.

In 2007 she moved to Denmark, and her talent and great versatility, from pure blues to soul, gospel and jazz,
have already made her a career here in the country, which only seems to grow and grow.

Steve Gadd Band [US]
Amager Bio - Friday Sept. 30th 9 pm - Adm. 350 kr. - Tickets: Ticketmaster.dk

He has played with everyone from Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton to Simon Garfunkel, Chick Corea and Al Jarreau.
The name is Steve Gadd, and he is one of the world's most sought-after session drummers. He can look back on a very long and glorious musician career that stretches back to the 1950s, where the only 11-year-old talent-sprout started in jazz' and played with Dizzy Gillespie.
Steve Gadd was trained at the Conservatory in his hometown New York, where he already played in concert- and string orchestras, and after a tour in the military he began to work in 1971 as a studio musician.
You can hear Gadd's super groove on the iconic '70s recordings with Carly Simon, Aretha Franklin, Stanley Clarke, Rickie Lee Jones, and not least Eric Clapton, Chick Corea and Paul Simon, who hired Steve Gadd for its African-inspired band, which he toured with in the ' 80s. He also played in the ' 80s with the funk/jazz/soul/blues-based New Yorker Studio band, The Stuff, together with Richard Tee, Cornell Dupree and Eric Gale. Even avid hardcore blues fans must surrender - check it out!

Today he still plays with Simon, but is also fast touring musician for Eric Clapton, James Taylor, and Kate Bush. It will not be too much to say that no drummer has had greater influence on modern jazz, and popular music.

Jake Green Band [DK]
Mojo - Friday Sept. 30th 10 pm - Adm. 70 kr. - Tickets: mojo@mojo

Jake Green Band is not your average blues band.

Jake Green Band is not your average blues band.
With remarkably experienced musicians and an extraordinarily strong lead vocal, the
band not only aims to venture outside of the boundaries of convention, but also has the
technical foundation to do so. The sound of this power trio is an artful mix of blues rock,
heavy shuffles and heart-wrenching slow blues, sure to reverberate in your chest and soul.
Jake Green Band is releasing its long-awaited first studio album "Plugging in", to follow
the live album from the Malmo Festival in 2011. It consists of 12 original songs which have
all been roadtested thoroughly live over the past years, and on the 9th of October it's finally
time to hear the result as it will be released prior to their concert at Mojo in Copenhagen.
The band members span 30 years in age and professional experience in the music industry.
This is perhaps what creates the unique combination of solid, traditional blues craftsmanship
and elements of other styles of music from the past three decades.
Guitarist and singer Jake Green has played with just about everyone in Danish blues, not
least as a steady host since 2006 at the legendary Thursday Night Blues Jam at Mojo Blues

Piekartz/Blicher/Hemmer/Kirk [DK/NL]
La Fontaine - Friday Sept. 30th 10 pm - Adm. 80 kr.

In 2014, an album was released in the Netherlands, in record time it was the highest selling
jazz release in the Netherlands this year. It was especially the amazing guest appearance
on the album by the young singer and pianist Daniel von Piekartz. His eminent piano playing
and timeless vocal points in direction of both Ray Charles, Etta James, Nat King Cole and
James Brown. Here in town Michael Blicher, Dan Hemmer and Snorre Kirk were looking for
a singer for the band "The Copenhagen Soul Trio", and as they randomly met the young great
talent from Amsterdam, there was mutual musical understanding and love from the first note,
and cooperation was a reality. With a classic sound that moves in the borderland between soul,
jazz and gospel, and with artists such as Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Al Green and Alvin Robinson
as sources of inspiration, the band has played to sold-out houses in Copenhagen and reaped many
praises for their joy of playing and energy.
In 2017 the band takes to the road with a tour in both home and abroad, before they go into the
studio to record their début album.
